Buildmat supplies stainless steel kitchen sinks to renovators, builders and homeowners doing real Australian kitchens, so the range is built around what Aussies need. Whether you're after a single bowl for a small kitchen or a double bowl for a busy household, you can filter by bowl configuration, install type or finish to narrow things down. For a full walk-through of sizing and installation, our kitchen sink buying guide covers the detail.

Shop stainless steel sinks by configuration

  • Single bowl kitchen sinks - one bowl, more usable space for big pots and trays. The most common format we sell.
  • Double bowl kitchen sinks - two bowls for splitting wash and rinse, or keeping mess contained on one side while the other stays clear.
  • Drainboard sinks - built-in drying area beside the bowl. Useful if you don't want a freestanding dish rack on the benchtop.
  • Tap landing sinks - includes a flat platform for mounting the tap directly on the sink rather than through the benchtop. Common where stone benchtops make drilling a tap hole impractical.
  • Butler and farmhouse sinks - deeper, often handmade-style bowls with an exposed front face. Suits a more traditional kitchen look.

What we'd check before you buy a stainless steel sink

Undermount vs topmount vs flushmount

Undermount sinks sit below the benchtop for a seamless wipe-down straight into the bowl, but they need a stone or solid surface benchtop to fix to. Topmount sinks - also called overmount or inset - sit on top of the benchtop and work with laminate, so they're the easier swap if you're not replacing the whole bench.

Tap hole or tap landing

Decide early whether your mixer mounts through the sink or through the benchtop. A tap landing sink builds the platform in; without one, you'll need a tap hole drilled into the bench instead. This needs to be sorted before the benchtop's cut, not after.

Bowl size vs cabinet width

Check the sink's external dimensions against your cabinet width, not just the bowl size advertised. A 900mm sink needs a 900mm (or wider) base cabinet underneath - tight margins here cause real fitting problems at install.

Left hand vs right hand bowl

On a single and ¾ bowl sink, the smaller bowl or drainboard can usually be ordered on either side. Check which side suits your tap position and bench layout before ordering, since swapping after delivery isn't an option.

In a kitchen renovation, we'd always confirm right or left hand bowl against the final cabinetry plan - it's an easy thing to get backwards if the kitchen design changes after the sink's already been chosen.

Finish and gauge

Standard brushed stainless steel is the most practical, hygienic and easy to maintain finish - it resists staining and shows fewer water marks than a mirror-polish finish. Brushed gunmetal and brushed brass gold sinks use a coloured finish over the same 304-grade body, giving you a non-stainless look with the same durability underneath. Our stainless steel sinks are handmade using 304-grade steel, which also helps with sound reduction - a noticeably quieter bowl than a thinner, pressed sink when you're rinsing pots or running the tap.

Stainless steel sink prices at Buildmat

Small single bowl and butler sinks start from around $229-$330. Standard single bowl sinks in the most common sizes sit between $330-$500. Double bowl and 1¾ bowl configurations typically run $500-$700. Drainboard and tap landing sinks with a drain board sit in a similar range to double bowl, from $430-$830. Coloured finishes - brushed gunmetal and brushed brass gold - generally add a premium over the equivalent stainless steel sink, often $150-$350 more depending on size.

Stainless steel finish and gauge are easier to judge in person - the difference between a standard brushed finish and a heavier-gauge sink isn't always obvious in a product photo. Open by appointment, Monday to Friday. Our Dandenong showroom is also open Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm.
