  • LED bathroom mirrors — backlit or front-lit mirrors with integrated lighting for shadow-free grooming. Most models have touch controls for brightness. Available in frameless, matte black, brushed gold and brushed nickel from Aulic and Otti.
  • Frameless mirrors — polished or flat edge, no visible frame. The most versatile option across bathroom styles — works with every finish palette and doesn't compete visually with tapware or vanity hardware. Thermogroup Ablaze polished edge round mirrors start from $160.
  • Round mirrors — the most popular shape we sell. Suits above-counter and undermount basins equally, softens bathrooms that are heavy on rectangular tile and joinery, and scales well from compact ensuites through to larger main bathrooms. Available with and without LED.
  • Arch mirrors — flat base, curved top. Adds height and a soft architectural presence without the full visual weight of a framed mirror. The Aulic Canterbury Arch LED and the Fienza Arch are the two we get the most questions about. The Canterbury comes in frameless, brushed nickel and brushed bronze.
  • Asymmetric mirrors — irregular or organic-shaped outline. The Aulic Tarcoola is the standout in this category, available in frameless, brushed gold, brushed nickel and brushed bronze from around $610. We see it specified most often in bathrooms with a curved or arched vanity where the mirror needs to read as a deliberate design choice rather than a standard fitout piece.
  • Pill mirrors — rounded rectangle. Suits double vanities and longer wall runs where a round mirror would look undersized. Aulic Sienna Pill LED in frameless and Aulic Beau Monde Oblong in frameless and gunmetal are the key options.
  • Shaving cabinets — mirrored cabinet with internal storage. The practical call for bathrooms where benchtop or vanity storage is limited. Thermogroup Ablaze wall-mounted shaving mirrors with magnification are also in the range for ensuites and compact bathrooms.
  • Oval mirrors — available through select Thermogroup Ablaze models.

What to check before buying a bathroom mirror

Width vs vanity width

The most common sizing mistake we see is a mirror that's narrower than the vanity underneath it, which makes the whole wall feel off. As a general rule, the mirror should be the same width as the vanity or within 100mm either side. For a 900mm vanity, an 800mm–1000mm mirror reads right. For a 1200mm double vanity, two round mirrors side by side or a single 1200mm frameless LED mirror both work — the choice comes down to whether you want a single focal point or two distinct zones above each basin.

LED or no LED

LED mirrors add between $150 and $300 to the cost compared to a frameless equivalent and require an electrical connection — either a hardwired install by an electrician or a GPO connection if the mirror has a plug. If you're mid-renovation and the wall is open, getting an electrician to run a circuit to the mirror position is straightforward and adds minimal cost. Retrofitting it through a finished wall is more involved. We'd decide on LED vs non-LED before the bathroom goes back together.

Frame finish vs tapware finish

Framed mirrors in brushed brass, brushed nickel or gunmetal read best when they match or closely echo the tapware and bathroom accessories in the same room. Frameless mirrors are more forgiving — a polished-edge frameless will work alongside almost any finish. Where customers run into trouble is pairing a brushed gold framed mirror with chrome tapware, or a matte black frame with brushed brass fixtures. Both are achievable as a deliberate mix, but they need to be deliberate. If you're not sure, frameless is the lower-risk call.

Shaving cabinet vs flat mirror

A shaving cabinet gives you storage behind the mirror face, which is useful in bathrooms without a separate linen cupboard or deep vanity. The trade-off is that a cabinet sits proud of the wall by 100mm–150mm, which can feel intrusive in a tight ensuite. For bathrooms with adequate vanity storage, a flat mirror is usually the cleaner finish.

Bathroom mirror prices at Buildmat

Frameless and polished-edge mirrors without LED start from around $160–$200, making them the most accessible entry point.

Framed mirrors without LED sit in the $200–$400 range depending on size and finish. LED frameless mirrors run from around $230 to $530 for standard rectangular formats. Framed LED mirrors with premium finishes — brushed bronze, brushed gold, gunmetal — sit in the $400–$700 range for most sizes, with the Aulic Tarcoola asymmetric LED at the top end of the range.

Thermogroup shaving mirrors with magnification start from around $180 for basic chrome models and run to around $550 for lit versions with concealed wiring. Whatever the budget, factor in an electrician if you're going hardwired LED.

FAQS

Match the mirror width to your vanity or stay within about 100mm either side. A 900mm vanity suits an 800mm–1000mm mirror. For a double vanity at 1200mm or wider, either a single wide mirror or two mirrors side by side both work — it comes down to whether you want a unified or zoned look above the basins.
Some models can be plugged into a standard GPO; others require hardwiring by a licensed electrician. Check the individual product specs. If you're mid-renovation with the wall open, getting an electrician to run a dedicated circuit is the cleanest outcome and easier to do before the wall is closed.
Frameless mirrors are the safer default because they work alongside almost any tapware finish and don't add another material to coordinate. Framed mirrors in brushed brass, brushed nickel or gunmetal look strong when they match the tapware and accessories in the room, but can jar if the finish doesn't align. If you're not certain about the finish match, go frameless.
A shaving cabinet is a mirrored cabinet mounted to the wall with storage behind the mirror face — useful when vanity storage is limited. A flat mirror is flush to the wall with no storage. Shaving cabinets typically sit 100mm–150mm proud of the wall, so in tight ensuites a flat mirror often gives a cleaner result.
Yes, and it's one of the most common combinations we see. A round mirror above a rectangular wall-hung vanity softens the overall look and works particularly well when the tapware has curved profiles. Size it so the mirror diameter is close to or slightly narrower than the vanity width.
