Types of Undermount Kitchen Sinks
An undermount sink, sometimes called a recessed, sunken, or underbench sink, is fixed beneath the benchtop rather than dropped into a cutout on top. The rim disappears under the stone, so there's no lip to catch crumbs and you can wipe spills straight off the bench into the bowl. It's the standard choice for stone and reconstituted stone benchtops, where a topmount sink would break up the surface. Both single and double bowl configurations work as an undermount, in stainless steel, granite, or fireclay.

Stainless steel single bowl sinks start from around $230 for compact butler-style options, running up to around $600 for our largest single bowls. Double bowl and drainboard sinks sit from around $500 to $850. Brushed gunmetal and brushed brass gold finishes carry a premium over standard stainless, usually adding $150–$250, and granite bowls sit in a similar range to the premium metal finishes. Factor in fabrication and cutout costs from your stonemason on top, since that's a separate job to the sink itself.
