Why Choose a Freestanding Vanity?
A floor standing vanity doesn't need structural wall support, which makes installation more straightforward and reduces the risk of complications during a renovation. That's the practical case.
The aesthetic case is just as strong - a freestanding bathroom vanity grounds the room in a way a wall hung unit can't. It has weight, presence, and a warmth that suits bathrooms where the goal is liveable comfort rather than stark minimalism.
For period homes, heritage renovations, and coastal Australian bathrooms, the freestanding format is our first recommendation. If you're after clean floor lines and a more contemporary look, our wall hung vanities from Otti and ADP are worth a look instead. Our team at the Buildmat Selection Centre can help you work through both options if you're undecided.
Free Standing Vanity Sizes We Stock
Aulic freestanding vanity units are available across the full size range - here's how to think about each:
- 600mm vanities - the right call for a powder room or compact ensuite. Enough bench space and storage for one person without dominating a smaller bathroom.
- 750mm - a versatile mid-size that suits single basin ensuites and secondary bathrooms. One of the most popular sizes in the free standing vanity range.
- 900mm - generous bench and storage space for a single basin main bathroom or ensuite. Available across the widest range of styles.
- 1200mm vanities - suits a larger ensuite or main bathroom. Accommodates a double bowl basin, or a single basin with generous bench space either side.
- 1500mm and 1800mm - our largest freestanding formats, suited to double vanity configurations in master ensuites shared between two people.
Explore Freestanding Vanity Unit by Style
- Harvest Oak fluted - the most popular finish in this range right now. The Lovina and Varcelli collections bring natural warmth and texture that pairs beautifully with brushed brass basin mixers and above counter basins. A strong choice for Japandi and coastal bathrooms.
- Matte white fluted - the Curva and Mini Hartelle ranges in matte white suit contemporary and Hamptons-influenced bathrooms. Clean, refined, and works across a wide range of tapware finishes.
- White and woodgrain entry options - the Alice, Maya, York, and Leona ranges cover the more accessible end of the range in white and woodgrain finishes.
Timber Vanities – the Most Popular Freestanding Style
If you're researching freestanding bathroom vanities, chances are you've been drawn to timber. It's the finish our customers are loving and buying the most right now, and for good reason.
A timber vanity brings natural warmth and texture that no painted or laminated finish can replicate. It reads as considered and intentional, it ages well, and it pairs beautifully with brushed brass tapware, stone top benchtops, and above counter basins.
Our solid timber vanities range includes genuine timber construction across several sizes and styles.
Brands We Recommend for Vanities
We're selective about the vanity brands we stock — every freestanding vanity in our range is there because it delivers on build quality, finish durability, and value for Australian renovators.
Aulic is our most popular freestanding vanity range, including the Alice, Maya, York and Leona in white and woodgrain, through to the architectural Hartelle and fluted Lovina, Varcelli and Curva collections in Harvest Oak and matte white. If you'd rather a wall-mounted option, Otti and ADP cover our wall hung vanities instead.
What to Check Before You Buy
- Basin configuration. Top and basin inclusion varies by model — check the individual product listing before ordering. Some units like the Alice include a ceramic top, while others are cabinet only. Either way, check whether you need a separate bathroom basin and basin wastes before checkout.
- Soft-close doors and drawers. Most Aulic units include soft-close mechanisms throughout - check individual listings to confirm.
- Tapware. Lock in your finish before you order - brushed brass, brushed nickel, or matte black - so handles, tapware, and accessories all sit in the same family. Brushed brass suits the Harvest Oak ranges particularly well.
- Space above the vanity. A shaving cabinet is much easier to plan in before the mirrors go up. Worth sorting at the same time.

Complete Your Bathroom with Buildmat
Your freestanding vanity is the centrepiece — build the rest of the bathroom around it in a consistent finish.
