Fireclay vs ceramic vs stainless steel 

Fireclay and ceramic butler sinks are heavier and need a cabinet built to take that weight - confirm with your joiner before ordering if you're not replacing an existing fireclay sink. Stainless steel butler sinks are lighter and more forgiving on cabinetry, but won't give you the same chunky, traditional look.

We'd always check the cabinet's rated to carry the sink's full filled weight, not just the dry weight on the spec sheet - a full fireclay double bowl holds a lot more water than people expect.

Benchtop and cabinet cutout 

Butler sinks generally need a larger cutout than a standard topmount sink, since the apron front sits forward of the cabinet face. Measure your existing cabinet opening against the sink's full dimensions, not just the bowl size, before you commit.

Undermount fitting 

If you want an undermount-style fit with a butler sink, confirm the benchtop material can support it - stone or solid surface only, the same rule as any other undermount sink.
