Elegant and Durable Tapware
Buildmat's tapware range is built to last, featuring high-quality solid brass bodies that withstand the rigours of daily use. With a focus on ergonomic designs, our selection includes a variety of styles from sleek pull-out mixer taps to dual spray mixers, to classic gooseneck taps and more, ensuring there's something to suit every style and need.
If we could offer you one tips that saves the most time on a renovation: specify your tapware finish before finalising your vanity, basin, and accessories order. It sounds obvious, but the most common finish mismatch we see is a basin and mixer ordered from different brands using the same finish name - "brushed nickel" from two brands can read noticeably different on the wall. Stick to one brand range per room, or order finish samples first.
Shop on-trend tapware colours and finishes
Choose a finish that ties your tapware into your overall décor, whether you're aiming for subtle coordination or bold contrast:
-
Brushed nickel tapware - soft silvery satin texture that hides fingerprints; the most forgiving finish for high-use bathrooms and kitchens
-
Chrome tapware - high-shine reflective finish; the most durable and lowest-maintenance option across the range
-
Gunmetal tapware - deep metallic charcoal; suits industrial, contemporary, and grey-toned bathrooms
-
Matte black tapware - light-absorbing low-sheen surface; strong contrast against light tiles and white basins
-
Brushed brass tapware - warm golden hue with a muted tone; suits timber vanities and warm stone palettes
-
Brushed gold tapware - lighter and more contemporary than brushed brass; soft lustrous metallic
-
Antique brass tapware - aged, patinated finish with natural character variation; suits heritage and period-style bathrooms
-
Matte white tapware - crisp contemporary surface; blends with white basins and tiled walls
-
Brushed bronze tapware - warm brown-grey metallic; suits natural stone and earthy tile palettes

What to check before you buy tapware
Solid brass vs alternatives
All tapware at Buildmat uses solid brass bodies - not brass-plated zinc or plastic internals. Solid brass is the standard for quality tapware: it's heavier, more dimensionally stable under temperature change, and the base for all PVD-coated finishes. Lead-free brass formulations are available across Caroma and Alma ranges and are noted on individual product pages.
PVD coating vs chrome plating
Matte black, brushed nickel, brushed brass, gunmetal, and brushed bronze finishes all use PVD (physical vapour deposition) coating - purpose-built for wet area use and significantly more durable than standard electroplating. Chrome uses electroplating, which is the most durable finish overall. Avoid abrasive cleaners on any finish; a soft cloth and water is sufficient for regular maintenance.
WELS rating
All tapware at Buildmat is rated to Australian WELS water efficiency standards. Most mixer taps carry a 4-star WELS rating. Check individual product pages for specific ratings if water efficiency is a priority - flow rates vary between standard mixers (7-9L/min) and filtered or pull-out formats.
Rough-in requirements
Wall mixers, in-wall shower mixers, and wall top assemblies require a rough-in valve installed in the wall cavity before tiling. The rough-in valve brand must be compatible with the trim kit. Caroma SwitchMix bodies are the most common specification in Australian new builds; Phoenix in-wall bodies suit Phoenix trim ranges. Confirm with your plumber before tiling.
Tapware prices at Buildmat
Entry-level basin mixers and kitchen square mixers in chrome start from around $150-$200. Mid-range basin and kitchen mixers in brushed nickel, brushed brass, and gunmetal typically run $220-$400. Pull-out kitchen mixers sit between $160-$600 depending on brand and finish. Premium kitchen and bathroom mixer ranges, in-wall systems, and freestanding bath fillers run from $400 up to $1,000+. Filtered water taps and Zip HydroTap systems are priced separately - see individual product pages.
Complete the space
Tapware works hardest when every metal fixture shares the same finish. Once your tapware finish is confirmed:
-
Bathroom towel rails and double towel rails - keep the metal finish consistent
-
Bathroom accessories - toilet roll holders, robe hooks, and soap dispensers in matching finishes
-
Kitchen sinks - confirm spout height suits your bowl depth before ordering a kitchen mixer
-
Bathroom basins - tap hole position and size affects mixer choice; confirm before ordering
-
Cabinet handles - coordinate kitchen and bathroom handle finishes with tapware for a fully resolved room
-
Basin wastes - available in matching finishes; often overlooked until it's too late
