How to Measure Your Bathroom Space for a Renovation

Accurate measurements before you order anything will save you a significant amount of time and money. Here's what to measure:

  • Floor plan dimensions: Measure the full length and width of the bathroom at floor level. Note the position of the door opening and which way the door swings. Note the position of any windows.

  • Wall dimensions: Measure the height of each wall from finished floor to ceiling. Note any soffits, bulkheads, or changes in ceiling height.

  • Existing fixture positions: Measure from the finished wall to the centre of the toilet waste outlet (your rough-in distance). Note whether the waste exits through the floor (S-trap) or wall (P-trap). Measure the position of the existing shower waste, basin waste, and any other drains.

  • Door clearances: Measure the clear opening width of the bathroom door. This affects what size vanity and bath you can bring in during installation.

We'd suggest drawing a simple floor plan to scale, even a rough hand sketch with dimensions marked, before visiting us or ordering anything. It makes every conversation about product selection faster and more accurate.

Bring your measurements to the Buildmat Selection Centre and we'll help you work through the full product selection.
