Ventair Spyda DC Ceiling Fans
We supply Spyda DC fans to homeowners, builders and electricians, and it's one of the most common fans we see used to replace an old AC fan on the same wall switch. The range is matched to running cost and noise as much as looks, which makes it a strong pick for bedrooms and rooms where the fan runs all night. Filter by sweep, finish and light option, and add a Vario remote or extension rod from our Ventair ceiling fan accessories.
Why choose a Ventair Spyda DC ceiling fan
The Spyda DC uses a fraction of the power of its AC equivalent at the same price. A 1400mm Spyda DC tops out at 35W, while the 1400mm Spyda AC runs at 68W on high, and both sit at around $330 in black or white. At 1573mm, the DC peaks at 45W against the AC's 100W. If your fan runs through every Melbourne summer night, that gap adds up.
It's also an easy swap. Every Spyda DC ships with a three-speed wall control designed for simple AC upgrades, so in most homes it goes straight onto the existing switch. Add the optional Vario remote and you get six speeds and a timer, with the wall control and remote working side by side. Every model reverses for winter, suits raked ceilings up to 18°, is rated for indoor and covered outdoor use, and carries a six-year warranty (two years in-home plus four years motor replacement).
Explore Spyda DC ceiling fans by type
- Spyda DC fans without a light: Fan-only models in black or white, from a compact 900mm up to 1573mm. A good fit for rooms already lit by downlights, or covered patios where you'd rather not have a light drawing insects to the ceiling.
- Spyda DC fans with LED light: A slimline, dimmable 20W LED panel (1990 lumens) that switches between warm 3000K, natural 4000K and cool 6000K. Available in 900mm, 1250mm and 1400mm.
Shop by sweep size
- 900mm Spyda DC fans for small bedrooms, home offices and nooks, running on 5 to 17W.
- 1250mm Spyda DC fans for standard bedrooms, dining areas and smaller living rooms.
- 1400mm Spyda DC fans for master bedrooms and general living areas.
- 1573mm Spyda DC fans for open-plan spaces and large covered alfresco areas, moving up to 15,300m³/h.
What we'd check before you buy
What's controlling your current fan. If you're replacing an old AC fan that runs off a wall controller, the Spyda DC's included wall control is built for that swap. Your electrician will still need to fit it, but you're not starting from scratch on wiring.
Whether you want the remote. The Spyda DC doesn't need a remote to work, and plenty of people never buy one. The ones who do usually want it for the bedroom, where the timer lets the fan switch itself off after you've fallen asleep. Because the wall control and remote run together, adding one later doesn't mean losing the switch.
Your ceiling height. Blades need to sit at least 2.1m above the floor. On a standard 2.4m ceiling with an LED panel underneath, measure before you order. For raked or high ceilings, match an extension rod to your model from the accessories range.
The size, not just the room. A 1573mm fan technically fits most bedrooms, but it looks very large from underneath. If you're between two sizes for a bedroom, we'd usually go down and let the DC motor's extra speed settings do the work.
Your light colour. The tri-colour LED means you're not locked in, but it's worth knowing that most bedrooms end up on warm white and most kitchens and living areas on natural.
