A small bathtub doesn't mean a small soak. Our small tubs range, from 1400mm - 15010mm, is built for bathrooms and apartments where a full-size bath won't fit, without giving up depth or comfort. Filter by shape, material and finish below, or read our bathroom renovation guide if you're planning the whole space around it.

Shop small bathtubs by type

  • Freestanding tubs: Compact and oval freestanding baths, work as a stand-alone feature in a small bathroom. Pair with floor-mounted bath tapware.

  • Back-to-wall bathtubs: The flat rear panel sits straight against the wall, so you get the freestanding look without losing floor space.

  • Corner bathtubs: Built to use an awkward corner that's otherwise dead space. Models like the Fienza Isabella come in left-hand and right-hand versions, so confirm handing before you order.

  • Inset baths: Drop into a tiled surround or platform for a built-in look. The simplest option if you're replacing an existing bath in the same footprint.

  • Island baths: Free-standing on all sides with room to walk around. Needs more floor space than back-to-wall or corner, so better suited to a larger ensuite than a tight one.

  • Spa baths: Multi-jet baths in footprints small enough for a standard ensuite, for when a soak isn't quite enough.

  • Deep baths: Extra internal depth without a bigger footprint. Check your floor-to-ceiling height before choosing one of the deeper models, especially under a sloped ceiling.

What we'd check before you buy a small bath

  • Waste position. Before we recommend any bath, we ask whether the existing waste comes out of the floor or the back wall. Models like the Isabella are set up for one specific position, and moving it later means breaking tile.

  • Door swing. A 1500mm corner bath only occupies the corner, but the door still needs roughly 700-750mm of clear swing in front of it. We've had jobs where the bath fit the floor plan on paper and the door didn't clear it.

  • Overflow or no overflow. Check the product listing for this before you order a waste. Click-clack wastes suit baths with overflow; pop-up or plug-and-chain suit baths without one. Get it wrong and the waste won't seat properly on install day.

  • Material feel. In the showroom, people who handle a solid surface sample next to an acrylic one usually go solid surface for a small bath despite the extra cost, because the denser material holds heat longer, and a small bath has less water to begin with, so it cools faster than a full-size one.

Small bath prices at Buildmat

Small bathtubs span a wide range. Acrylic inset and back-to-wall baths sit at the more affordable end, from a few hundred dollars. Acrylic freestanding and corner baths in matte white or gloss white usually run from around $1,000 to $2,000. Solid surface baths cost more, generally from $2,500 up, reflecting the heavier material. Bath wastes, tapware and installation are separate costs on top of the bath itself.

Small tub materials and finishes

Acrylic is the lightest and most affordable material for a small bath, and the easiest to retrofit into an existing bathroom. Solid surface costs more and needs a sturdier floor, but it's denser, holds heat for longer and reads as a more substantial finish in a small bathroom.

Matte white and gloss white remain the two standard finishes across our small bathtub range. Gloss reflects more light, which helps a small room feel bigger; matte hides water spots better and suits a more textured, contemporary fit-out.

Finish your bathroom with Buildmat

Pair your small bath with bath tapware in a floor-mounted bath filler for freestanding and island baths, or a wall-mounted mixer for back-to-wall and corner installs where floor space is tight. Add a matching bath waste since most baths ship without one, then finish the room with a towel rail within easy reach of the tub.

FAQS

Yes, most small baths use a steeper internal slope and a raised backrest to hold deep soaking depth in a shorter footprint.
Most of our small freestanding bathtubs and back-to-wall baths include a moulded backrest or headrest at one end for support during longer soaks.
Acrylic is the lighter, more affordable option and suits most small bathroom renovations; solid surface costs more and needs your floor loading checked before install.
