The Best Kitchen Sinks Online for Australian Kitchens

Buildmat’s kitchen sinks range, including premium 304 grade stainless steel, is designed for homes in Australia that value both style and practicality. Each piece is built for everyday use, combining durable materials with finishes that stay looking new no matter how busy your kitchen gets.

Stainless Steel Kitchen Sinks Designed for Everyday Living

Your kitchen sink is one of the most used features in your home and it needs to work as hard as you do. That’s why stainless steel sinks remain the go-to choice for Australian kitchens. A stainless steel sink offers durability, easy maintenance, and a timeless look that suits both modern and traditional spaces. Whether you're prepping dinner or stacking dishes, the right kitchen sink can make all the difference.

Brushed stainless also hides water marks better than polished stainless in a busy kitchen, which is something customers often appreciate the most. It's worth considering if wiping down the sink every day isn't your priority.

Kitchen Sinks for Every Layout and Lifestyle

From small city apartments to busy family homes, we offer a wide range of new kitchen sinks to suit your space. Choose a single bowl kitchen sink including right hand bowls, for compact areas or upgrade to a double bowl kitchen sink if you need more room to multitask. Our range includes undermount kitchen sinks and topmount kitchen sinks, all designed to maximise benchtop space and streamline your workflow with deep bowls.

Kitchen Sinks Online in On-Trend Colours

Buildmat’s kitchen sinks come in finishes that suit every style and surface. Stainless steel remains the top choice for its strength and versatility, while white sinks and grey sinks add a soft, contemporary touch. For a bold contrast, black sinks and gunmetal sinks finishes bring modern edge to minimalist kitchens. If you prefer warmth and luxury, explore brushed brass gold or brushed stainless steel designs.

Why Choose Buildmat Kitchen Sinks?

Buildmat Kitchen Sinks Award Winner

1.5mm Premium Thickness for Everyday Strength

Sink thickness isn’t just about weight — it’s about quality. Our kitchen tubs are made with 1.5mm thick stainless steel, giving you greater durability, better sound absorption, and a more solid feel. Whether it’s a compact single bowl or a generous double bowl sink, you’ll notice the strength every time you set down a pot or stack dishes in the drainer.

Our sinks are designed to suit both stone and laminate countertops, with styles including undermount sinks, topmount, and flushmount options to complement any layout.

Precision Handmade Sinks with Built-In Confidence

Each of our handmade kitchen sinks is crafted with precision. Unlike mass-produced pressed sinks, our designs are welded by skilled professionals to maintain full thickness across every wall. The result? Clean lines, strong corners, and a finish that’s built for daily life.

You’ll find options across a wide variety of styles and materials — from classic stainless steel sinks to statement finishes like fireclay sinks or on-trend farmhouse sinks. Many include thoughtful kitchen sink accessories like strainers, colanders, and cutting boards — all designed to make your space work harder for you.

Made for Australian Kitchens

All of our sinks are built to meet Australian plumbing standards and include watermarked basket wastes. With long-lasting finishes and full warranty coverage, you can be confident your sink is made to handle the demands of everyday life — and then some.

What to Check Before You Buy a Kitchen Sink

Benchtop cutout and cabinet width

Measure your existing cutout before selecting a replacement sink - the new sink's outer dimensions must clear the cutout, and the cabinet below needs to accommodate the bowl depth. Most 600mm-wide cabinets suit a 500-600mm sink; double bowl formats typically need a 750mm+ cabinet. If you're going larger, confirm the cabinet carcass can take the weight, particularly for granite and fireclay sinks.

The question we get most from Melbourne renovators: "can I go larger than my existing sink?" Usually yes, if the benchtop is stone and the cabinet is wide enough. The constraint is almost always the cabinet width, not the benchtop cutout - benchtops can be recut, cabinets can't easily be widened. Measure the internal cabinet width before upsizing.

Undermount vs topmount for your benchtop material

Undermount sinks require a waterproof solid-surface benchtop - stone (natural or engineered), solid timber with sealant, or similar. They cannot be undermounted into laminate. If your benchtop is laminate and you want the clean look of an undermount, a flushmount is the closer option. Topmount sinks work across all benchtop types and are the straightforward choice for a like-for-like swap.

Bowl depth and your plumbing set-out

Deep bowl sinks (250mm+) look great but need more clearance under the bench for the waste pipe and P-trap. In renovations where the waste is already fixed in the floor or wall, a very deep bowl can create a tight angle on the drain. Check the clearance between your benchtop underside and the waste outlet before specifying a 250mm bowl - particularly in apartments with limited sub-floor space.

Tap holes

If your kitchen mixer mounts through the benchtop rather than on a tap landing, your sink won't need tap holes. If you want the tap on the sink itself, confirm the hole position and size matches your mixer before ordering. Most of our range is available with and without tap holes - check individual product specs.

304 vs 316 stainless steel

304-grade stainless is the standard for indoor kitchen sinks and handles everyday use, cleaning products, and humidity well. 316-grade (marine stainless) is specified for outdoor alfresco kitchens where the sink is exposed to UV, rain, and salt air. Don't use a 304-grade sink outdoors long-term - it will corrode at the weld points.

Watermark certification

All sinks sold at Buildmat carry Watermark certification - the Australian compliance standard for plumbing fixtures. This is a plumber's requirement at installation and also relevant for insurance and building inspections.

FAQS

The inset sink style (also known as overmount sinks or known as topmount sinks) are the most popular, we have designed our sinks to have an easy to install clip that holds the sink down to the benchtop whether you've decided to use a stone benchtop, laminate benchtop or timber benchtop you want to make sure you use our easy to use pull-down clips. Both our stainless steel single bowl inset sink and double inset sinks are available. Our sinks are also designed to be an undermount sink, either undermount single bowl or undermount double bowl this is a more costly exercise and we always recommend that you plan your sink a lot earlier than usual because it is better to provide the sink to the cabinet maker so that there are no mistakes when doing the sink cut out. Make sure if you're designing your kitchen around the benchtop that you look for an undermount sink without a taphole because it is more elegant and having the tap sit on the bench makes for a better feel. Another style that people like to use is the flush mount style, but make sure you have a conversation with your stonemason before deciding because it's very hard to get right and might end up as a costly activity, but if you're able to pull it off nothing can beat the style. Either single bowl sinks or double bowl sinks will work for a flushmount, but we'd avoid putting in a drainboard for a flushmount style.
We have multiple styles of single bowl sinks, double bowl sinks, and drainer sinks with a drainboard if you'd like to read more about sink configurations you can visit our article: which kitchen sink style is right for you. If you're going to be a lot of cooking a preparation then consider a double bowl sink.
If you're after a nice sturdy laundry sink that you're getting a benchtop for, make sure you don't get stuck with a low-quality tub, generally when people think laundry tubs they are flimsy low quality and out in the corner. Modern homes are now being redesigned with a laundry that's nice enough to show your guests, the kitchen laundry tub is the best option as they're made strong enough for the wear and tear of kitchen use but situated pleasantly in the laundry, most people will choose a single sink instead of a double sink for the laundry, but it's really up to you. It's actually one of the best-kept building secrets: using a single bowl kitchen sink in the Laundry. If you want to read more on buying a laundry tub visit our article: Laundry tub buying guide.
Start with your cabinet width. A 600mm cabinet suits a 500-600mm sink; 750mm and above opens up double bowl and drainboard options. For undermount sinks, the benchtop cutout can be adjusted if you're using stone - measure the internal cabinet width as your primary constraint.
304-grade stainless is the Australian standard for kitchen sinks and handles everyday use, heat, and cleaning products well. The quality difference you'll notice is gauge thickness and sound dampening - thin-gauge sinks vibrate and amplify noise; our 304-grade handmade sinks include sound-dampening pads to reduce that. Cheaper sinks are often thinner gauge and louder.
