Buildmat stocks shower rails for renovators, builders and homeowners across Australia. The range covers all the primary setups: simple hand showers on brackets, adjustable single shower rails, and complete twin shower sets that give you both an overhead drenching shower and a detachable hand piece. We carry hardware from Alma, Nero, Phoenix, Fienza, Meir and Caroma, giving you options from budget-friendly builder ranges right up to premium architectural fixtures.

Shower rail types we stock

  • Shower sets (Twin Showers): The ultimate upgrade. These sets combine a fixed overhead shower head with a detachable hand shower on an adjustable rail. A built-in diverter lets you switch between the two. The Alma Mira Twin Set and Nero Mecca Twin Shower are popular choices for a luxury bathroom feel.
  • Handheld showers on rails: A single detachable hand shower mounted to a vertical sliding rail. This allows you to easily adjust the shower rail height to suit different family members, making it the most practical choice for shared bathrooms or kids' bathrooms.
  • Handheld showers on brackets: The minimalist option. A hand shower that sits in a fixed wall bracket rather than on a sliding rail. It takes up less visual space on the wall while still giving you the flexibility of a hose for cleaning the shower screen or washing the dog.
  • Shower heads & shower arms: If you just want to upgrade the head itself — not the whole rail — browse our dedicated shower heads and shower arms collection for overhead, ceiling shower, and wall-mounted options.
  • Grab rails: Purpose-built for accessibility and safety. The Nero Mecca Care range combines an adjustable shower rail with a load-bearing 25mm or 32mm grab rail, ensuring compliance without sacrificing contemporary design.

What we'd check before you buy

Shower rail installation and retrofitting. If you're replacing an existing shower without removing the tiles, pay close attention to the mounting points. Many renovators get caught out buying a new shower rail only to find the top mounting bracket doesn't cover the hole left by the old one. Look for adjustable shower rails where the mounting pillars can slide up and down the rail before fixing – this lets you reuse your existing drill holes and avoid cracking tiles.

WELS rating and water pressure. All shower heads sold in Australia must have a WELS (Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards) rating. A 3-star rating (usually around 8 to 9 litres per minute) offers a good balance of pressure and efficiency. If you're on a gravity-fed or older low-pressure hot water system, be careful with high-end twin showers, as running both heads simultaneously might result in a weak flow.

Matching your finishes. A shower rail is one of the largest pieces of metal in your bathroom, so getting the finish right matters. If you've chosen a brushed brass shower rail set, you'll want to carry that exact finish through to your vanity mixers, bathroom accessories, and heated towel ladders. Because we stock full ranges from brands like Alma and Nero, you can keep the finish perfectly consistent across the whole room.

Top inlet vs. bottom inlet. This is crucial for twin showers and rails. Does your water come out of the wall high up (above head height) or lower down (near the mixer tap)? You must buy a shower rail that matches your plumbing setup — a top water inlet rail won't work if your water connection is at the bottom, unless you're prepared to pay a plumber to move pipes inside the wall.

Shower rail prices at Buildmat

Simple hand showers on fixed brackets and budget-friendly builder rails start from around $100 to $180. Mid-range adjustable single shower rails and short shower rails run from $200 to $450. Premium twin shower sets and architectural fixtures in specialty finishes (like brushed gunmetal or aged brass) sit at the top of the range, from around $500 up to $1,200+.

Finish the whole space

Shower hardware finish decisions rarely happen in isolation — once you've committed to a matte black, matte white, chrome, or brushed nickel shower, you'll want the same finish running through the rest of your bathroom fixtures. Carry your chosen colour through to your basin mixers, shower hardware, bathroom accessories, and even your floor grates for a cohesive, designer look. If you're also planning an outdoor shower, we stock those too.

FAQS

Yes. If you currently have a standard fixed wall shower, you can usually unscrew it and screw on a hand shower with a hose and bracket, or a rail shower with a bottom water inlet, without needing to change the plumbing behind the wall.
Buildmat's shower rails are specifically designed to be compatible with certain shower head types. It is important to check the product specifications or consult with our customer support team to ensure that the shower rail you choose is compatible with your specific shower head.
A twin shower (or dual shower) is a fixture that includes both a large, fixed overhead shower head (often a rainfall style) and a separate, detachable hand shower on a hose. A built-in diverter switch lets you choose which shower head the water flows from.
The top mounting point for a standard shower rail is typically installed around 1.9m to 2.0m from the floor. However, the advantage of an adjustable sliding rail is that once installed, the hand piece can be moved up or down to suit the height of whoever is using the shower.
