Shower shelf material

  • Metal shower shelves - solid brass or stainless construction; the most popular format for in-shower use; matches directly to tapware finish
  • Glass bathroom shelves - tempered glass with metal brackets; lighter visual weight; suits bathrooms where you want storage without the shelf becoming a feature

Shower shelf finishes

  • Black shower shelves - matte black; the most requested finish for Australian contemporary bathrooms; coordinates with matte black tapware and accessories
  • Brushed nickel shower shelves - warm silver tone; forgiving of water marks; works across both cool and warm tile palettes
  • Chrome shower shelves - polished chrome; the most durable and lowest-maintenance finish; suits classic and transitional bathrooms

Bathroom shelves for every bathroom design

Whether you're updating a small bathroom or planning a full renovation, bathroom shelves are an easy way to add storage without taking up floor space. Choose a shower shelf to keep toiletries within reach, or a corner shower shelf to maximise space in tighter layouts. Each piece is designed for easy installation and long-lasting use in humid bathroom environments.

Durable bathroom shower shelve finishes to match your style

Buildmat's shower shelves and bathroom shelves come in finishes including brushed nickel, chrome, matte black, brushed brass, brushed gold, brushed gunmetal, and gun metal grey, so you can coordinate directly with your bathroom tapware, bathroom accessories, and towel rails. Materials include solid brass, stainless steel, and tempered glass - all purpose-built for wet area use.

The rule that holds across most bathrooms: match your shelf finish to your shower mixer or basin tapware. A brushed brass shelf against chrome tapware reads as an oversight; the same shelf against brushed brass tapware reads as deliberate. The finish list on this page mirrors the finish options available across our tapware range for exactly this reason.

Space-saving shower shelfs

From wall-mounted shelves to floating and built-in designs, these practical additions create storage where you need it most. Use them in the shower recess, above a bathtub, near a mirror, or beside a shower screen to keep soaps, bottles, and hand towels tidy. Compact options from 300mm suit tight shower recesses and smaller bathrooms, while longer shelves work in double showers and wet rooms.

Corner shower shelves get overlooked in planning but are often the most practical option in a tiled shower. A 90° corner mount uses dead space and keeps the main wall clear. Most of the Caroma and Nero range mount flat to the wall - if you specifically need a corner shower shelf or corner shower caddy format, filter by corner in the product grid.

What to check before you buy

Wall fixing in a tiled shower

Most shower shelves fix directly into the tile via rawlbolts or silicone. Confirm the tile thickness and substrate type before ordering - some shelves require a solid wall behind the tile. Hollow walls or poorly anchored tiles won't hold a loaded shelf long-term.

Finish matching to existing fixtures

Buy a shelf and a towel rail or robe hook from the same brand range if you want a guaranteed finish match - even within a brand, "brushed nickel" can vary between product ranges. The Caroma Urbane II, Nero Mecca, and Phoenix Vivid Slimline ranges each have shelves that match directly to their tapware within the same line.

Solid surface vs glass

Metal shelves hold more weight and are more forgiving of hard use. Glass bathroom shelves - tempered glass shelf formats - look cleaner and suit vanity areas or display-style storage. In a shower recess with multiple products, metal is the more practical call; above a vanity where you want visual lightness, glass works better.

  • Caroma bathroom shelves: Luna (the entry-level metal shelf in chrome, brushed nickel, brushed brass, and black), Urbane II (mid-range; wider finish spread including gunmetal and brushed brass), and Contura II (the premium line in brushed bronze, brushed brass, brushed nickel, and matte black). All three coordinate directly with their respective Caroma tapware ranges. The Liano II shelf also available in brushed brass, brushed nickel, brushed bronze, gunmetal, and chrome.
  • Nero bathroom shelves: The Mecca range is Nero's workhorse - available in chrome, matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold, brushed gunmetal, and matte white; the widest finish spread in our collection. The New Mecca is a slimmer-profile version of the same. The Zen is the outdoor/alfresco-rated option in brushed nickel and graphite. The Bianca and Dolce are the more refined lines for higher-spec residential bathrooms. Nero also stocks Mecca Care grab rails with integrated shelf - useful for accessible bathroom designs.
  • Phoenix bathroom shelves: The Vivid Slimline metal shelf (chrome, matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold, brushed carbon) and the Cromford glass shelf (450mm tempered glass with metal bracket in chrome, brushed nickel, and brushed gold). The Radii metal shelf with round plate in brushed nickel and matte black. All coordinate within their respective Phoenix tapware ranges.
  • Fienza bathroom shelves: The Tono glass shelf (the most affordable glass bathroom shelf in our range; chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, urban brass, gunmetal) and the Kaya shower shelf (urban brass and brushed nickel). The Fienza Tono in urban brass is the entry point for a brushed brass shower shelf at an accessible price point. The Lillian glass shelf also available.
  • Alma bathroom shelves: The Larry shower shelf in vintage brass, brushed nickel, and brass gold. The most decorative shelf format in our range - suits bathrooms where the shelf is part of the design rather than purely functional.
  • Argent bathroom shelves: The Mondrian Neu 500mm glass shelf in chrome - a clean, architectural format suited to contemporary bathrooms.
  • Meir bathroom shelves: The Curvae shower shelf in champagne - a curved-edge format that works well with arch vanities and curved basin designs.
