Matte Finish
Due to better slip ratings, matte finish tiles are used in external areas like around pools, balconies and patios and bathroom floors. That being said, matte finish tiles may also be used anywhere else in the building. A minimum R10 slip rating to tiles to external and internal wet areas is commonly specified. If the tile does not come pre-sealed, it is good practice to seal the tiles.
Gloss Finish
Gloss finish tiles can be used anywhere, generally they are not used in external areas around: pools, balconies and patios and they are generally not used in bathrooms. Gloss finish tiles often come pre-sealed.
