Double Bathroom Vanities
Wall Hung Vanity or Freestanding Double Vanity?

Both formats work well in a double vanity configuration — it comes down to your bathroom's style direction and structural setup.
A wall hung double vanity keeps the floor clear and makes the bathroom feel more spacious — the right call for contemporary, minimalist, and Japandi-influenced master bathrooms. It requires solid wall framing capable of carrying the weight across a wider span, so plan this with your builder early.
A freestanding double vanity is easier to install and suits Hamptons, coastal, and period-style master bathrooms where the vanity reads more like furniture. A 1800mm freestanding double vanity unit in shaker white with brushed nickel tapware is one of the most enduring looks in Australian bathroom design.

How Big is a Double Vanity?
A double vanity — also called a double sink vanity or double bathroom vanity — is a vanity unit wide enough to accommodate two basins side by side, giving two people their own dedicated bench space. In practice, most double vanities start at 1200mm, though 1500mm and 1800mm give each person genuinely comfortable space rather than a technically workable but tight arrangement. If two people are using the bathroom simultaneously every morning, we'd recommend 1500mm as the comfortable minimum.
How to Get Your Double Vanity Sizing Right
The most common mistake we see with double vanity purchases is choosing a width that looks right on paper but feels cramped in use. Here's how we think about sizing:
- 1200mm — the minimum practical width for a double vanity. Works for two people in a pinch, but bench space is limited. A better fit if one basin is used as a primary and the other as secondary.
- 1500mm — our recommended minimum for a double vanity used simultaneously by two people daily. Each person gets comfortable bench space without the other feeling like they're in the way.
- 1800mm — the premium double vanity format. Generous bench space on both sides, room for storage between or below the basins, and a presence in the bathroom that makes a genuine design statement.
Whatever size you choose, measure your bathroom carefully — not just the wall width but the door swing, toilet clearance, and any bulkheads that could affect placement. Our team at the Selection Centre works through these details with customers every day.
Basin Options for a Double Vanity
How you configure the basins on a double vanity is as important as the vanity itself. The two most popular approaches are: a double bowl basin integrated into the vanity top, or two individual above counter basins sitting on the benchtop. The integrated double bowl is cleaner and easier to maintain. Two above counter basins with a stone top benchtop gives a more luxurious, hotel-style result. Both approaches work across our double vanity range — check individual product listings for what's included and what's sold separately.
Complete the Look with Buildmat
A double vanity needs double the hardware — two sets of basin tapware, cabinet handles across the full width, and a mirror or pair of mirrors that fill the wall above properly. Keep the finish consistent across every element — brushed brass, brushed nickel, or matte black — and the room will feel designed rather than assembled.
